We were told that our short film has to be based on one of three given fairytales- Little Red Riding Hood, The Pied Piper or The three little pigs. In the seminar we we discussed the details of each and dissected the storylines to work out subtle and hidden meanings behind them.
After discussing them, we decided that we wanted to base our short film on Little Red Riding Hood. We thought that we would be able to do a lot with this storyline, as there are a lot of similarities between the wolf and a vampire. We want the genre of our film to be a horror-thriller with slight hints of comedy throughout.
After deciding all of this Bethan wrote the synopsis for the film-
Red (main character, late teens) reads about disappearances of young women in her village. Her mother leaves to check on her grandmother, says she won’t be long.
Mother doesn’t return, Red gets worried, there’s a knock at the door but Red doesn’t open it. She hears a crash in the kitchen finds a middle aged woman claiming to be her grandmother.
Red cuts her finger and discovers that her grandmother is a vampire and has killed her mother, and the other missing girls, to remain youthful. There is a struggle between them with Red ending up killing her grandmother.
