Filming-Days 1 & 2.

I found that the filming of our Redemption short film went quite well. I think this was because we all worked well with one another and as a team. If someone was unsure about something, everyone else would help.

On the first day of filming we brought our equipment and our actress down to the woods to film our beginning scenes. We knew this area quite well as we had previously filmed in this location when filming our teaser trailer. Even though this first scene is short, it took us roughly an hour and a half to film at this location, due to setting up our equipment and also because we wanted to capture a large amount of shots. We had a shot list and storyboard to work off, but we also took a variety of other shots so that there are options when editing. My role on the days of filming was a camera operator, also Harrison helped me with filming as he has some knowledge when it comes to camera work. We both worked together to, in my opinion, get quite strong shots on this day.

On the second day of filming we shot our indoor scenes that took place inside the Grandmothers house. We chose a friends house in Cathays, as we thought it would suit our film really well as it was quite cosy. We took our equipment to the house and set up. It took us a while to set up because the lighting was quite difficult. We started filming with our first actress, Laura, before our second actress turned up. We did this so that we could make the most of not only our time, but our actresses time. We shot all of the shots with just Laura in them, and then our other actress Linda arrived. We then filmed the scenes with both of them. Our actresses worked very well with each other, and instantly clicked. Filming them both together was an easy experience as they were both very professional. The only part of the filming that was slightly difficult was our short fight scene. We could have prepared slightly more for this scene, and choreographed it better as it took us a while to film, and it was also quite difficult to film. So if I could have done it again, I would have focused more on the fight scene in preproduction, rather than just on the day of filming. Once again myself and Harrison worked together when filming in the house. Even though we had a story board and a shot list to help us with our filming, we also captured a variety of other shots. As there wasn’t a lot of room to move around in the house, we decided that we wanted the majority of our shots to be done hand held, rather than on a tripod. This way we could film from more angles and move around more with ease.

I really enjoyed filming for our short film. I had never done anything of this genre before, so it was really interesting to film this. I think that I captured a lot of good shots on both day of filming. Myself and Harrison filmed a variety of shots from many different angles and heights. Hopefully the variety will help when editing.
