Making A News Report

As part of our multimedia module, we created a fictional news report about a missing person to play in our short vampire film. That way we can create our own world within the film and build a background on the disappearances that occur within Redemption. So with the idea, the next step was to find an actor that will fill the role of the ‘reporter’. I hired someone that I have worked with in previous projects for the report as he enjoys presenting and acting. He is also reliable and hardworking. After finding an actor, I started researching missing persons news reports on Youtube so when it came to writing the script on Celtx, I knew what information was necessary to include.

This report was on a young man who went missing for a month, before being found dead in a woodland area not far from where he lived. Details such as his bank account and mobile phone not being used were adopted and put into the script to make our report sound realistic.

As the missing people in our fictional film are abducted and killed for their blood, the report above was very useful as the girl they report missing (Sabrina Allen) was abducted by her mother, who was a fugitive. There are parallels in this report and our fictional one as I copied the style of how Sabrina’s kidnapping was reported before being found.

On Thursdays the 18th of November, as I went through the script with the actor, the rest of the team set up the filming equipment on the balcony of the new part of the university. We booked out a Sony Fs5 camera which came with a boom mic and monfrotto tripod to shoot as we have used the tech before and can prepare it quickly.
