Filming news report

We thought that it would be effective and interesting if we could add a new report to our film and website. Today we went and filmed this new report. We knew that we wanted to film somewhere that would make it look realistic, and not just in an unplanned location. We decided that filming on the balcony in the uni would be effective and would look nice and legitimate. Before we filmed, Bethan wrote up a risk assessment, just so that it was safe to do so and that we were being professional about it. So that we could film the news report, we booked out the NX5 camera, tripod, mic and boom pole.

When we started setting up on the balcony, we realised that it was rather bright and that we couldn’t film in that exact spot. There was a small shaded area on the balcony, which at first we thought would make the report too dark , but in fact when we actually set up the camera there, it looked quite good.

Another problem that we came accross when filming was the sound. It was quite windy when we were filming, meaning that we could hear it through the microphone. Secondly, the traffic next to the Uni was rather loud, and that was also coming through the mic quite strongly. In order for us to get best quality sound in that location, Adam (sound) moved the boom mic around, and found a good position that meant that there was minimal excess sounds.

The script that Dan came up with was really good and realistic, and sounded authentic. Also, our actor Marcus was able to perform it well and overall it looks like it’s going to be a very nice new report.
