Crime Watch Reenactment

On Wednesday 22nd March we shot the reenactment segment of our crime watch video. We used Sophia Karpaty, a Theatre and Drama student, as our actress. We shot on a Canon 600D as we wanted the footage to be quite grainy and bad quality as that was how they showed the reenactments on the actual crime watch show. We also booked out a tripod and tascam. I directed this reenactment, Harrison filmed it, Adam recorded the sound and Dan filmed a behind the scenes video.

Firstly, we took our actress to a radio studio on the third floor of the Atrium building, here we recorded her voice, telling the story and reading the script. As is was quite dark in there we decided to film her saying the script with just her sillouhette on the wall behind her. We decided to film this as in the crime watch video I watched for research, they occasionally cut to the shadow/outline of the person speaking, this gave an element of anonymity for the victim. This went well as it adds another dimension to our crime watch segment.

We then took our actress and equipment around the city centre. We firstly had her walking around filming shots of her journey as we went, we then moved on to a quieter side of town and shot the attack as we didn’t want to worry people, but we also needed a quiet alley to film in.

Here is the risk assessment for our shoot:

SLIP/TRIP HAZARDS

The radio studio we’re using is rather small and as there will be 5 of us and equipment we will need to be careful of where we step. The radio studio will also have many wires around the place so we will need to make sure everyone is aware of the trip hazards.

PUBLIC/AUDIENCE

The radio studio is on the third floor of the Atrium building, University of South Wales. This will mean that there will be students everywhere and they may interrupt our recording.
