Teaser Trailer

Last week we decided to take out some equipment and our actress and film a teaser trailer for our film. We firstly went to a secluded, wooded area just past Roath Park and did some location scouting.

 

Filming a teaser trailer meant that we could experiment with some of the equipment we planned to use, such as the LED lights and reflector, as we haven’t had much experience with them. We hired out a Sony FS5, a tripod, an LED light and reflector and a Tascam and we drove to the woods just past Roath Park. Harrison operated the camera and set up the lights, as he had some experience using this equipment, Adam recorded the sound, whilst me and Dan directed and helped everyone else out.

 

We also had the opportunity to work with our actress Laura Maggs. This gave her a chance to get to know us as a crew and we could see how easy it would be to work with her. Whilst working with her we came to the conclusion that she fits our character really well and we cast her as Red.

 

Filming the teaser trailer really brought us together as a crew as we finally had a chance to work practically with everyone. I feel confident that we can create a good short film for our vampire project.

Brief Description of What You Want to Film (the Script): We want to film a teaser trailer for our Vampire Film. We want just a couple of shots of our actress, Laura Maggs, walking around a forest and reacting to a twig breaking or someone following her.

Brief Description of How You are Going to Film It (Plan): We will hire out all our equipment, pick up our actress and drive to the small wooded area in Llanedeyrn, we will set up the lights and equipment and film Laura walking around the woods and acting all dramatic.

Brief Description of the Location Where You Will be Filming: The wooded area in Llanedeyrn is very close to a big residential area, it is quite secluded however it is all pathways so will be used by the public. It is close to a few roads and carparks and is only about a 15 minute drive from the centre of Cardiff.

SLIP/TRIP HAZARDS

-There is a pathway through the woods however as it’s Autumn it will be very muddy and covered in leaves, these could be slippy so we will have to be careful where we walk.

 

ACCESS/EGRESS

-To get from the road to the woods there is a very small, narrow and steep path down that will be dangerous to get down with the equipment, we will need to work as a team or find a safer way to get down to our location.

 

ANIMALS (WILD+TAME)

-There may be birds, foxes or badgers about as we are planning to film at night, there may also be cats or dogs walking around as we are close to a residential area, we will need to make sure we don’t disrupt these animals too much.

 

PUBLIC OR AUDIENCE

-The woods are a public area and we are aware that people may walk through occasionally, we will allow this to happen obviously but will try to avoid shooting during busy hours or when people are walking by.

 

VEHICLES

-We are close to a road so people may be driving by disrupting our filming, we will also be crossing a road to get to the woods, we will need to be aware of safety around certain vehicles and be cautious at all times.

 

PUBLIC ROADS

-We will be filming by a public road and will be crossing one, we all know road safety so will have to be cautious and safe when crossing especially as we will have a lot of equipment with us.

 

CREW FATIGUE

-We are planning to film this at the end of the day so we will need to make sure our crew have all been fed and watered and are prepared to shoot for a couple of hours, we will obviously bring some water and all dress appropriately for the weather that day.

 

NIGHT SHOOT/DARK

-As we are planning to shoot at night we will need to get some extra lighting and make sure all crew is accounted for at all times, we will also need to wear appropriate clothing as it will be colder in the evening.

 

WEATHER EXPOSURE

-We don’t know what the weather will be doing so we may have to change our shoot date if it is raining, however we will need to make sure that all our cast and crew are wearing appropriate clothing for the weather.

 

REMOTE LOCATION

-We are not all familiar with the location and it is not near the city centre, we will have to maybe go explore before we shoot in order to understand all our exits and pathways to get there.

 

BAD NEIGHBORHOOD

-We are unfamiliar with the neighbourhood surrounding the wooded area so we will all need to vigilant at all times and make sure all the crew and equipment is accounted for at all times.

 

ELECTRICITY

-As we are filming in the woods there will be no electricity to use, we will have to make sure all our cameras and lights and equipment is all fully charged and has full batteries before we set off.
