In order to cast our Grandmother we created a StarNow account which is able to find talent in your area. I took control of this aspect of the project because as producer it was my job to cast the actors. We set up the profile and made an advert for our vampire film, stating that we are looking for a mature female to play the role of Gran. Below is the ad and all the details that we provided:
Once the details were put out, we received interest from a number of women. Once the interest died down I began to sort through the applicants and hire the actress. Out of the 8 applicants, I got in touch with two: Francisca and Linda. As a group we all liked the look of Linda’s profile so I reached out to her on the website. Below are the messages that me (under the name ‘The Redemption Team’) and Linda exchanged throughout November on StarNow. I believe that I spoke and managed the hiring of the actress in a polite and professional manner.
Linda requested the script so that she could learn her lines so we exchanged emails and continued the conversation on gmail. There were also issues with the filming date which we had to resolve over email as well. Here I gave her the script, address for the shooting location, time of shoot amongst other information. Linda showed great enthusiasm for the role due to asking many questions about costume and the film being modern day.
Linda ended up being the perfect candidate for our vampire film as she had done previous work involving the supernatural. She was easy to talk to and give instructions, and even helped us with directions and asked loads of questions about how she should perform. We definitely will be working with Linda again in the future if possible.
