Crime Watch Script

I took on the role of creating the crime watch script, I watched a few crime watch segments on youtube and took inspiration and copied the layout of the show.

I watched this one in particular for research.

I then went about writing the script for our particular show, I showed it to the group and we made a few edits before coming to the final draft.

Here is the final draft of our crime watch script:

Presenter: Now to the horrific attack on a young woman in the centre of Cardiff late last year. The 24 year old was walking home from work in the early hours of the evening when she was followed, dragged into a side street and attacked. Thankfully, we have some CCTV footage of the police’s prime suspect. But first, let’s hear the victim’s story, her words spoken by an actor.

Woman: I work in one of the pizza shops in town, it was a Thursday, I work 12-6 on a Thursday. I’d just finished work and started to walk my regular route home when my friend text me about an attack on a teenager a few streets down from my house, I replied telling her I’d walk a different way home and that’s when my phone flashed the low battery symbol. I stuffed it into my bag and carried on walking home through the busy streets of Cardiff, I turned a corner and suddenly the streets were silent, there was no one about. I held my bag close to me and sped up when I could feel a sort of…presence..following me, I couldn’t see anyone but I just, I don’t know, felt someone was watching me. I started to run and that’s when I saw….her….a woman….I think, she just grabbed me and pulled me into a dark side street, she was trying to fight me, pinning me down and pulling my hair up…I was screaming but no one was around, I don’t know what it was but a sudden rush of adrenaline came over me and I managed to push her…it…off of me and I just ran. I left my bag in the alley and everything, I just ran. I could sense her following me when suddenly a group of men walked into the street, they asked if I was okay and called the police immediately.
I’m always doubting myself, it just happened so fast, I’m not even sure what I saw.

Presenter: Well, we thank the young woman for being able to tell us her brave story, we’ve also been in contact with Detective Inspector Mark Johnson from Dyfed Powys Police, he’s told us that the offender has been described as a woman, however the victim doesn’t recall her age or nationality, just that she was wearing dark clothes and had extremely bloodshot eyes. We luckily have some CCTV footage of the supposed attacker walking behind the victim, here you can see he is moving extremely quickly and this is just moments before the attack.
Now unfortunately the footage isn’t very clear, however we are appealing to the public, so if you were around Northcote Street near City Road on Thursday 22nd December around 8pm or have any information relevant to this case please don’t hesitate to call MissingPersons on 0500 600 600 or contact us using our “Missing Persons” app and if you’ve been affected by our story tonight at all, you can find help and guidance on our website.

The presenter will be filmed in the TV studio in smart clothing with an earpiece in to look professional, he will be reading off the autocue and pointing to a screen to make it seem realistic.

The woman’s voice will be recorded on a tascam and put over a reenactment video of the attack that we will film around Cardiff city centre. The reenactment will show her walking home from work, receiving a text, getting followed and lastly getting attacked.
