Finding an actress to play Red was a fairly easy task to carry out as Bethan and I both have contacts in performance modules. Before shooting the teaser trailer we asked Laura Maggs (Theatre and Drama student) to play Red purely for the trailer. We thought to quickly ask her to help as she does an acting course and her skills can be applied to our film. However when she wore the signature red coat Laura looked the part. When creating Red and envisioning her in my mind I wanted her to have wit and charisma which Laura has in bucket loads. Moreover, I also wanted the character to show vulnerability when put in locations such as a creepy forests and situations like being attacked by a vampire which Laura showed when we were shooting the teaser trailer on the outskirts of Cardiff.
Once the teaser trailer was edited and finished I asked Laura about her availability to see if she could play the role of Red in the actual film. She let me know that she had an exam on the 8th of December so we had to schedule the filming date around that. We shot her forest scene during the evening on the 8th as she was done with university for the term and could focus on the film.
